Beatblock
Beatblock is an arcade-style rhythm game developed by BubbleTabby, and published by SKY HOUR WORKS. The first PC Demo was released on itch.io on May 28th, 2024. It originally released without a publisher, but it was announced on June 20th, 2024 that SKY HOUR WORKS would be publishing the game alongside an official Steam release of the demo.
Gameplay
Beatblock can be controlled by either mouse and keyboard or controller.
The player controls a character ('Cranky') in the middle of the screen and has to aim a shield at incoming notes coming from around the player. The angle of the shield is controlled by either the mouse or the primary analogue stick on a controller.
The notes in Beatblock consist of Blocks, Holds
, Mines
, Mineholds
, Taps, Sides
and Inverses
.
- Blocks
and Holds
must be blocked by the Paddle extending from the player character, while the player must avoid touching mines
and mineholds
.
- Inverses
act identically to Blocks
but come from the opposite side of the screen and must instead hit the back of the paddle.
- Tap Notes require the player to press buttons using either the keyboard, mouse or a connected controller when the tap note reaches the paddle. This also applies to 'Extra Taps' which may not be tied to a note.
- Sides
require the player to hit the note from the side, and will be counted as a miss if you hit them directly.
At the end of a song, the player is given a score. There are currently no unlocks tied to scoring.
