This category includes games which are closely tied to the rhythm game genre, community or history, while not being directly about keeping inputs timed to a beat. This category also includes games which status as a rhythm game is heavily debated by the community. Being in this category is not some mark of shame or declaration of rigid truth. Genres are a very muddy and grey way of categorisation. Where you draw the line is different for anyone else. We think at the very least, these games are worth including on this wiki for one reason or another.

Examples of what does not constitute keeping inputs timed to a beat directly include some of the following games:

  • Just Shapes & Beats is a game where you dodge incoming hazards which are timed to the music. The player does not need to time any input to the beat and instead moves around freely.
  • Geometry Dash is a game where you jump and avoid obstacles with some free-flowing movement to the music. The player does need to time inputs to the beat and what is happening on screen, but only half of the time.
  • Hi-Fi Rush is a game where you hit enemies to the music. The player does need to time their attacks, but movement is free-flowing in 3D space.

This short list alone showcases the spectrum of how close to a rhythm game these games are, or how they could even be considered a rhythm game technically, depending on where you draw the line personally.

We hope this information and category gives you enough information to draw your own conclusions for yourself, and more importantly, give you even more games to branch out to and try.
