Ongeki (stylized O.N.G.E.K.I., JP: オンゲキ) is a rhythm game with bullet hell elements developed and published by SEGA as a part of the Performai series. It is mainly known for it's unique controls and the usage of the companion cabinet Card Maker.

Gameplay

Gameplay involves hitting notes while moving your selected characters along the track to stay on the field, dodge bullets, and collect Bells. Songs also contain a battle system, first against smaller enemies before moving to the main boss. To clear the song, you must deal Over Damage to the boss by reducing it's HP to 0. Over Damage contributes to your final Battle Score, which depends entirely on damage. A separate scoring is used for accuracy called Technical Score. Hitting 0 HP on a song yourself will cause you to Game Over, while clearing the song without dealing enough damage results in a draw.

Note Types

  • Colored Tap Notes: The standard note type, press the corresponding button on either side of the lever to hit.
  • Colored Hold Notes: Hold notes, these function much like tap notes. Hold down the corresponding button on either side of the lever. Ongeki does not have hold timing, so players don't need to worry about releasing on time.
  • Side Button Tap: Press the corresponding side button. These are located next to the colored buttons on the cabinet walls.
  • Side Button Hold: Press and hold the corresponding side button.
  • Flick: Quickly move the lever in the corresponding direction.
  • Bell: Collected by moving the central character using the lever.

Cards and Skills

Ongeki includes several character cards used to affect gameplay. Cards can be leveled by playing songs or using in-game currency; this increases their attack power. Cards also have special skills, ranging from automatically hitting certain notes to reducing damage from bullets. Up to three cards can be used in a level at once. Cards are given using the corresponding Card Maker, where cards can be pulled from a Gacha System and printed to be used in-game.
