Overpass is a rhythm game developed and published by Studio Bean, released on August 15th 2019. It is the second rhythm game developed by the studio as well as the fourth game developed by them. It is only currently out on Steam, with Console ports being announced with no release date.[1]

Gameplay

The Gameplay of Overpass is described as a rhythm game "where the perspective is your biggest enemy".[2]. Markers align in rhythm to the song with the eye receptor on the top of the screen. Some markers are pointed left or right, which indicate the lane you must switch to in order to hit them. Markers aren't floating notes, but are instead part of the environment. They can be part of an arch or on a falling pillar. They can also be on moving objects such as falling stalactites or windmills. Line markers act as hold notes, where the player must hold down the action key in order to hit them. They can also move to different lanes while needing to be held. There are also special notes called "Lamps" that are optional and do not break combo but can be hit, similar to the Ad-Lib notes in the Groove Coaster franchise.

The main game takes place in Discovery, where the player chooses between different branching paths called "Highways", progressing though 8 different worlds. Each world has it's own theme and gimmick, culminating in the final world which includes every gimmick from previous worlds. There are also special bonus levels named "Detours", which challenge the player by changing the perspective of the level and moving the eye receptor to the right side of the screen, as the markers move from left to right. Compared to the regular Highway levels, Detours are shorter and are optional in completing the game.

The game also features a custom editor mode, where players can create their own levels using their own songs and play user-made creations.
