Rhythm Thief (リズム怪盗R) is a series of games developed by Sega and Xeen, featuring a mix of rhythm games and puzzle adventure action in the style of Professor Layton. The game follows master thief Phantom R and his dog companion Fondue, as they travel through Paris to solve the mystery of a seemingly resurrected Napoleon Bonaparte.
Gameplay
Rhythm Thief's gameplay consists of traveling across Paris by navigating through screens with characters in a point and click adventure kind of style. You can talk with characters and solve their issues by playing rhythm games. You also come across various mandatory rhythm games you need to play to progress the story. These rhythm games vary in gameplay, which are controlled by touch screen, buttons or gyroscopic controls. In some rhythm games you need to swipe in the right directions to dance. In others you need to press the right buttons to perform actions. The game has a rhythm meter, which will fill when you hit in time and depletes when you miss. Getting an E rank fails the level if it is a story mandatory rhythm game.
The game has options to enable or disable the on screen timing circles, which close in on an action command icon of the action you need to perform. When disabled, the game has to be played through visual clues only.
